Abstract

This presentation, delivered at the 2026 Taiwan Regional Congress, examined the role of contrastive linguistics in the teaching of French as a Foreign Language (FFL). Using the aspectual adverbs toujours, tout le temps, and encore* as case studies, it explored how teachers can address subtle semantic distinctions encountered by Japanese-speaking learners.
Rather than providing an exhaustive linguistic description, the presentation proposed a reflective analytical framework for FFL teachers, conceived as a transferable methodology applicable to many near-synonymous expressions across languages. It also introduced classroom activities aimed at fostering learners'metalinguistic awareness while limiting cognitive overload.
