Popular TV series Bura Tamori explores UTokyo’s “treasures” The weekly program’s stroll through the Hongo Campus airs in two parts on Aug. 23 and 30

August 22, 2025

Japanese TV entertainment series Bura Tamori (“Strolling with Tamori”) will broadcast two consecutive weekly segments highlighting the University of Tokyo’s “treasures.” The segments air separately on Aug. 23 and 30, 2025, respectively.

The Japanese public broadcaster NHK’s highly rated weekly program features popular comedian and variety show host Tamori, who visits various parts of Japan with his female announcer co-host, where they stroll through the area guided by local experts and explore the geology, history, culture and other aspects of the district.

The current show, for which the Hongo Campus was selected as the setting and “treasures only found at UTokyo” as its theme, grew out of the comprehensive cooperation agreement concluded between UTokyo, which celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2027, and NHK, which marks its centennial in 2025.

The project falls in line with the concepts of “Reflecting, Creating, Connecting,” around which UTokyo’s 150th anniversary celebrations are centered, and the university provided full support and cooperation with interviews and filming.

The filming took place in June when Tamori and the NHK crew visited the Hongo Campus, and was made possible through the cooperation of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, the Historiographical Institute and the University Museum.
