AY 2026 Graduate Matriculation Ceremony held

The University of Tokyo AY 2026 graduate matriculation ceremony was held at the Nippon Budokan on the afternoon of Monday, April 13th.

Approximately 3,000 new students and 3,100 members of their families attended the ceremony, making for a total of approximately 6,100 attendees.

President Fujii Teruo, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Faculties and Graduate Schools and the directors of University Institutes went on stage, along with special guests Ms. Nakamitsu Izumi, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs; and Mr. Kunibe Takeshi, president of the UTokyo Alumni Association.

President Fujii gave a speech to the new students on behalf of the university, followed by a speech from Dean of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences Ito Koichi. Ms. Nakamitsu and Mr. Kunibe then gave congratulatory messages to the new students. Next, Ms. Sugimoto Tomomi, a student in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class, after which the ceremony was concluded.

A livestream of the ceremony was provided, and watched by many new students and their families who were unable to attend the ceremony, as well as the general public.
